the friday question

O.K., Beer Week is over so the Friday Question makes its glorious return.  This week we’re offering a brewery gift set of sorts … a growler of Oliver Ale, 2 of our lovely new logo pint glasses and a 3 Lions t-shirt! Not bad, even if I say so myself! Here’s my pre-amble before the nitty gritty of the actual question.

I spent a very pleasant early evening yesterday supping pints of Dark Horse dark mild at Bertha’s in Fells Point in the company of owner Tony Norris and legendary brewer Steve Parkes and their respective wives. As you know Steve was a pioneer of the craft beer revival in the region as co-founder of the British Brewing Company in 1988 (later to become the Oxford Brewing Company) before his departure in 1992. Steve is currently educating generations of new brewers as owner of the American Brewer’s Guild and holds a consulting position with Otter Creek Brewery of Vermont. I was particularly pleased to finally meet Steve  to thank him in person for the letter of support that he wrote for me in his role as head of the American Brewer’s Guild in support of my work visa petition some years ago. Of course, it’s always interesting to meet another English brewer in the States and “compare notes” as it were. We share many of the same philosophies in our approaches to brewing beer. It was also a real treat to hear some of the stories from the old days at the British Brewing Co. first hand …. there were many hilarious anecdotes to be told! Evening’s like this are such a pleasure it really makes me think that I could never imagine not being in the brewing industry!

So enough of these musings … here’s a ridiculously simple question.

On what day & date did the Oxford Brewing Company brew its last batch?

    I believe that December 30, 1998 was when the last batch was brewed.

    How about:
    Wednesday, December 30, 1998?

    I wonder when the last beer from that batch was consumed? Now that would be a question!
