Mid-week round up
It’s a busy week this week with 5 brews in the works. We’ve brewed an Irish Red and Blonde Ale so far, a Dark Horse today and tomorrow it’s time for the Strongman Pale Ale followed by an Ironman Pale Ale on Friday. The Hot Monkey Love fermentation is just about done so I’ll be moving that to conditioning on Saturday. Unfortunately I don’t have many firkins available to fill although Oliver at Frisco Grille has supplied one to me so that will be aging on oak for an appearance there in the future. Speaking of “My Monkey’s Got Wood” don’t forget that the last cask of the 2009 batch will be on the beer engine at The Pratt Street Ale House on Valentine’s Day …. nothing says “I Love You” like a Monkey with wood! This cask will be just shy of 10 months old when it’s served so it should be a real treat!
Don’t forget to check out the pint night at Frisco Grille this evening from 7pm. They’ll be pouring the Scottish Ale, 3 Lions, Bishop’s Breakfast and Peeping Tom Porter (cask) and your first purchase gets you a free souvenir Oliver pint glass.
The Scottish Ale is selling nicely and will be appearing on tap at The Judge’s Bench and Mahaffey’s in the near future. I finally got the chance to drop by The Judge’s Bench yesterday albeit all too briefly. It’s an excellent bar, great tap line-up and Mike is a very genial host. I was very pleasantly surprised to find Life & Limb on tap, quite a rarity these days. I also tried the delightful Allagash Hugh Malone, an excellent beer with great balance and hop presence.
Tomorrow evening casks of Peeping Tom Porter will be pouring at both Max’s Taphouse and Bertha’s in Fells Point. These are the last casks of the Peeping Tom, I didn’t even manage to save one for the Ale House as the remaining 3 firkins went out to ChurchKey!
There’s still a little of the oak aged Winter Warmer on cask at the Ale House and once that’s gone the Scottish Ale will be on the beer engine. I can’t wait for that one, it’s swiftly become one of my favorite cask ales!
We’re awaiting delivery of some local hops (Chinook) which were grown in Frederick County, hand picked and air dried which we are going to use to dry hop casks of various different ales. Hopefully they’ll arrive in time to use in the Best Bitter that I’m racking for ChurchKey tomorrow. I’ll also be using them to dry hop the Blonde Ale next week.
Cheers
Steve
